All Abilities Mackay — a charity that advocates for the value, acceptance and inclusion of people with disabilities and their families — will soon launch a new learning centre for children to promote fun and purposeful skill building.
The Summer House Mackay centre will offer a variety of programs including Kids Yoga, Active Kids and Open Free Play Group, catering for up to 80 children at any one time.
Thanks to a $3,000 Stanmore Coal Isaac Plains Community Grant, All Abilities Mackay Founder Rebecca Nicol was able to purchase four safety mats for the centre, as well as play equipment to encourage playful learning.
“Summer House Mackay is a place where all children can play, focusing on gross and fine motor skills, coordination and proprioception, social and communication, and emotional and sensory regulation,” Rebecca said.
“Unfortunately for us, funding has been increasingly difficult for our little charity to come by.
“We have certainly struggled post the bushfire crisis and COVID-19, so the Stanmore Coal grant ensured we were able to continue to furnish our new centre with toys and equipment, and be ready to commence our programs once restrictions are lifted.”
