Round one for 2021 of the Stanmore Coal Isaac Plains Community Grant Program opened on 1st January, providing schools, local community groups, clubs and not-for-profit organisations the opportunity to help fund their community initiatives.
Grants of up to $5,000 are available through the program for initiatives that highlight community health and wellbeing, support young people in the region, provide opportunities for Indigenous engagement and support the environment.
Gymnastics Moranbah was one of 17 local community organisations to receive funding as part of round two grants in 2020. The grant was used to introduce Fitter for Life classes for seniors over 50 years of age.
Gymnastics Moranbah Club Manager, Gabby Halverson said the classes are important to help seniors stay strong and mobile, and are an opportunity for social interaction.
“We are very passionate about helping the seniors in our community stay active. This program focuses on heart and physical health but is also a fun and social way to get moving,” Gabby said.
“This is the first time we’ve received a Stanmore community grant and it was greatly appreciated. Our instructors had to be trained and qualified to run the Fitter for Life classes, so the funds supported their training and helped Gymnastics Moranbah set up the program.”
Stanmore Coal General Manager Operations, Leandro Pires said the organisation was committed to continuing its support for local community programs.
“2020 has been a tough year for many people and organisations in our community. We are committed to supporting local initiatives and programs and hope that these grants can help make a real difference,” he said.
“Stanmore is proud to contribute to organisations across the Central Queensland region both through the Isaac Plains Community Grant Program and through key partnerships with community groups.
“We look forward to receiving another round of strong applications and giving local schools, clubs and groups a new year gift to continue the activities that mean so much to their communities.”
Online applications for round one community grants opened on 1 January 2021 and close on 31 January 2021. Previous grant applicants and recipients are also encouraged to apply.
